Highlights

Experience riding through the untouched mountains, Umling La, world’s highest motorable pass, numerous water crossing and a river crossing. See how Ladakhi Nomads are living there in such treacherous conditions from ages and visit some of the highest lakes of the planet earth.

Difficulty

Moderate : In Ladakh, as weather is likely to change on a day to day basis thus making driving a little tricky. The two mountain passes Khardung La and Umling La, where the weather changes in hours from bright sunny to rain to hailstorm to heavy snowfall.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Leh

On arrival at Leh airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. After breakfast, in a group meet and greet you’ll briefed about law and regulations of India, do’s and don’ts. Next is up to you, If you are feeling good go for a short walk to Leh bazaar(Leh local market) or trek to the Leh fort and if not, stay in your hotel try to keep up with fluids, drink lot of water as AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) can be a factor on day 1. Do not worry it would be long gone by the next morning.

Day  2: Leh – Lamayuru – Leh

After breakfast, get accustomed to your motorcycle as we go for a flat out drive to Lamayuru Monastery. we will have lunch on the way and than we shall return to hotel in Leh through the same route.

Day 3: Leh – Khardung La – Nubra Valley

Today, we’ll cross the mighty Khardung la and drive out to Hunder in Nubra valley. Hunder is a cold high altitude desert. With a brief stop at the Khardung La top for the pictures, we continue till North pullu. At North pullu checkpoint we’ll stop for the lunch. From north pullu onwards road is very narrow and snaky, so ride with caution. At Hunder enjoy camel ride on sand dunes and evening bonfire at camp site.

Day 4: Nubra Valley – Pangong Lake

After breakfast, we’ll leave for the majestic Pangong lake lies deep in Himalayas on Indo-China  border. Today’s journey going to be more nomadic as we drive through the barren Shyok valley. Road is very twisty and narrow and river shyok runs along with it. We’ll ride on sand at some patches and cross the river shyok at one point as there is no bridge on it. At Durbuk, we shall have the lunch and continue our journey to Pangong lake. At Pangong lake, you’ll be transfer to your camp and rest of the evening belongs to you.

Day 5: Pangong Lake – Hanle

Today’s ride takes you deep into the untouched heart of Changthang, leaving behind the blue hues of Pangong Lake and venturing toward one of the most isolated villages in India – Hanle. The journey is raw, thrilling and scenic, tracing desolate riverbeds, high plateaus and rugged tracks that few travelers ever see.

Hanle welcomes you with wide skies, ancient monasteries and the surreal presence of India’s highest space observatory. It’s peaceful, powerful and unlike anything else in Ladakh.

Day 6: Hanle – Umling La – Hanle

Get ready for the ultimate high-altitude challenge – riding to Umling La Pass (5,883 m), the highest motorable road on Earth. This route is wild and remote where silence rules and the sky feels within reach.

This road tests your grit, your machine and your breath. Every kilometer is a thrill. After a victorious photo at the top, return to Hanle with stories few others can tell.

Day 7: Hanle – Tso Moriri

This high-altitude route crosses remote army zones, salt plains and hot springs near Puga, offering an ever-changing backdrop of surreal beauty. As the road climbs and dips through this desolate terrain, it leads you to one of Ladakh’s most peaceful gems – Tso Moriri, nestled at 4,522 meters above sea level. The lakeside village of Korzok greets you with fluttering prayer flags, grazing yaks and a chance to truly disconnect.

Day 8: Tso Moriri – Sarchu

Today we shall set out to leave Ladakh Valley and enter into Lahual valley of Himachal Pradesh. We take left turn from Sumdo village and drive past stunningly beautiful lake Tso Kar towards Moore Plains. Tso Kar has huge salt deposit on it’s banks. At more plains junction, we take left towards Pang. Here, we’ll have lunch and tea break.

After lunch, we ride past the dusty – gravel stretch of Pang-Lachung la to Nakee la. We’ll ride down through Gata loops, it’s a stretch of 21 hair pin bends and continue our journey till Sarchu night camp site.

Day 9: Sarchu – Manali

It will be the final leg of our Classic Himalayan Raid. After morning breakfast, we’ll ride to Baralacha La mountain pass. After Baralacha la it’s going to be smooth sailing till Manali. We shall have our lunch at Darcha and then we move on to Rohtang Pass, the last piece in the puzzle. At Manali, you’ll be transferred to you hotel. Dinner will be served in the hotel and you can have few drinks.

Day 10: Manali to New Delhi

Today we say goodbye to each other. Your flight tickets to New Delhi will be handed over to you and a cab will take you to the Bhuntar airport in Kullu. Though this is not a regular operating airport, and is also very weather sensitive so there is no guarantee for the air mode. Another alternative is by Bus. A bus will take approx 10 hours from Manali to Delhi. Contact us for the more details.

Availability

Departure for this tour will be from June to September every year. If you are solo then you may join our group tour. For group booking and inquiry please contact us. It is advised to book at least 2 months earlier from the departure date.

  • You have to pay 25% booking amount when it remains 6 months in the tour departure.
  • Deposit 100% of tour package amount prior to the 60 days of tour departure.

Refund & cancellation

  • Up to 60 days or more before the tour departure; Refund 100% of the paid amount.
  • Between 30 days to 59 days before the tour departure; Refund 50% of the paid amount.
  • 29 days or less before the tour departure; No refunds.
