Khardung La, often called Khardungla Pass is one of the most iconic landmarks in Ladakh. Located at an altitude of 17,982 feet (5,359 meters). It was long believed to be the highest motorable road in the world until Umling La recently claimed that title. Still, Khardung La remains a legendary destination for travelers, especially adventure motorcyclists. It is still known as the highest all weather motorable pass.
It connects Leh to the Nubra valley, making it not just a high point, but a gateway to some of Ladakh’s most remote and beautiful regions.
Why Is Khardung La Famous?

Khardung La was once part of an ancient trade route connecting Leh to Central Asia. Traders would use this pass to carry goods between India, China and beyond. Even today, you can feel the sense of crossing into a land beyond. - Military Significance
