Tso Moriri – Wetland Conservation Reserve

Tso Moriri Lake lies in the Ladakh part of Changthang region and is one of the most attractive, sacred and serene high altitude lakes present in India. Matter of fact, this particular lake is the largest high altitude lake in the India that is within the India. This magnificent and pleasant blue lake spreads out approximately 7 km at its broadest point and is also around 19 km long.Being a constituent of the wetland reserve within the Ramsar site, it is actually widely known as Tso Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve, and no person is permitted to construct anything or even decide to pitch tents along the banks of the lake. A great number of flora and fauna life can be found on this region.

The glamorous blue shades presented by this lake together with a picture-perfect landscape throughout the area, gives this place an exceptionally breathtaking perception. However, in reality this place can turn out to be quite hostile and difficult to survive in, particularly during the winter. There are few accommodation site present around the lake and crucial facilities like hot water, electricity, western designed toilets or electricity are scarce.

Tso Moriri Lake is situated approximately 240km from Leh town in the district of Ladakh.It has an altitude of 15075 feet, which is close to 4595 Meters. Between the months of January and March, The Lake mainly remains frozen, adversely low-temperature conditions with no choice of hanging around the lake. Around the month of April, this solid frozen lake begins to melt and transforms into attractive blue multi shades off the shores. Between May and August is the peak season for tourists to visit.

During the months of September to around early October, the tourists begin to dwell around the area as the cold sets in and accommodation tents are erected close to the lake.
